The Madness Of The Endless Chase Of "Desires", "Dreams" & "Wants"
Most people are not exhausted because they want too much.
They’re exhausted because they never stop wanting.
There’s always another milestone. Another goal. Another version of success to reach. Another identity to become.
You achieve one thing… and your mind moves the finish line.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Ambition isn’t the problem.
Compulsiveness is.
Because when wanting becomes automatic, it slowly replaces peace with restlessness.
And if you’re not intentional, you end up building a life that looks successful—but doesn’t feel like yours.
The Real Problem Of "Wanting" Most People Miss
We’ve been conditioned to believe:
- If you’re not growing, you’re falling behind
- If you’re not chasing, you’re wasting time
- If you’re not achieving, you’re becoming irrelevant
But that’s not the truth.
Stopping, taking a break to experience this moment, isn't a weakness.
It gives you clarity to back off from "wants" that are not yours to begin with.
There is a difference between:
- Aligned desire (what genuinely fulfills you)
- Borrowed desire (what looks good to the world)
And most people never pause long enough to tell the difference.
3 Steps To Get Out of Compulsive Wanting
Step #1: Interrupt the Chase (Even for 5 Minutes a day)
Not forever. Just for a moment.
Sit still. Without the phone, without the music.
There is no productivity angle.
You're not improving, not fixing, and not planning.
Just breathe now.
Your mind has been trained to equate stillness with “falling behind.”
But this pause is what resets your baseline.
Do this.. I'll wait
How does it feel?
Don't add logic. Trust your feeling.
Way #2: Question Every Desire
Before you chase something, ask yourself:
- Do I want this because it excites me?
- Or because it impresses others?
- Does this expand my life experience?
- Or just my image?
Most desires aren’t truly yours.
They’re inherited from social media, society, expectations, and comparison.
It has almost become subconscious.
Be honest with yourself.
How much money do you really need? What work do you truly want to do?
If you could have anything you desired, what kind of life would fulfill you the most?
Who is the real YOU?
These questions can save you years of chasing the wrong things.
Step #3: Redefine “Stagnancy”
Stagnancy doesn’t mean you’ve stopped growing.
It means you’ve stopped rushing.
It means you’re allowing yourself to:
- Enjoy what you’ve already built
- Feel present without guilt
- Experience life without turning everything into progress
Sometimes, the most powerful growth happens when nothing is being forced.
Why This Matters
Here’s the truth most people avoid:
The world you’re trying to impress is not paying that much attention.
Everyone is busy thinking about themselves. Solving their own problems. Managing their own insecurities.
You might be noticed—for a moment.
But never forever.
So why build your life around external validation?
You deserve something deeper:
- Peace in your own body
- Clarity in your own decisions
- A life that actually feels like yours
The Big Picture
From a neuroscience perspective, constant wanting is driven by dopamine.
Dopamine is not about happiness—it’s about pursuit.
So when you’re always chasing, your brain stays in a loop of:
seek → achieve → reset → seek again
That’s why peace feels unfamiliar.
When you pause—even briefly—you interrupt that loop.
You teach your nervous system:
“I am safe, even when I’m not chasing.”
Over time, this builds emotional stability, clarity, and deeper satisfaction.
Your Next Move:
- Wanting is human
- Compulsive wanting is what steals peace
- Not every desire is truly yours
- You don’t need to chase constantly to be worthy
- Stillness is not stagnation—it’s recalibration
Take 5 minutes.
Close your eyes.Do nothing.
Then ask yourself:
What am I chasing right now—and why?
Answer honestly.
That’s where clarity begins.
