Success Isn't A Linear Path You Expected It To Be
Let's get real.
On the path to your dream, you are going to be playing blind.
Things will happen, challenges will arise when you don't expect them.
There will be days that feel slow. There will be dos' and undos'. And there will be days when you question everything you've been working for.
Is it even worth it? Am i wasting my time? Why can't things be simple?
If you can only see a clear path right upto the destination. But more than often, it's never the case.
Playing blind is normal when you have a big vision.
Nobody talks about this part.
Progress may feel slow, in fact very slow.
You may have kids you need to take care of, maybe your health is slowing you down, or maybe time is less because you're working another job to pay the bills while you build something new.
Situations aren't always ideal for clear focused hardwork without disturbance. Guess what - welcome to the real world.
You can have:
- A solid plan
- A well-structured checklist
- A clear long-term goal
And still wake up feeling like you're walking through fog.
When the dream stretches you, when it’s bigger than your current identity, it will feel uncertain.
Some days you build. Some days you fix. Some days you just hold everything together.
It’s not linear.
If it were linear, everyone would succeed.
Maybe there would even be world peace.
But the path isn’t straight.
It’s:
- High-energy days
- Low-motivation days
- And long, boring plateaus where nothing seems to move
You don’t get to see the entire staircase.
You only see the next 2–3 steps if you're lucky.
And that’s where most solopreneurs quit.
Because the darkness of the unknown confuses the mind. And a confused mind says:
“Let’s back out. This might fail.”
But that discomfort, that is the nature of success.
What do you do on days when you question everything you do? everything you are?
The Truth About Big Visions
I know this feeling personally.
I’m working on a project right now that is taking far longer than I expected. It’s stretching me. It’s humbling. It’s testing my patience.
Some days feel productive.
Some days feel like I’m just fixing leaks.
Some days feel like nothing is happening at all.
I've been working on it everyday and I have nothing to show, nothing that can say - Oh good progress!
And that’s when the mind starts whispering:
“Maybe this isn’t working.”
But here’s what I’ve realized:
Your job is not to see the entire path. Your job is to execute the next step with excellence.
Do the best I can in this very moment.
That’s it.
The “Next 2 Steps” Framework
Instead of obsessing over the full journey, focus in this moment and let's get this right. This is how we take back control of our life.
1. Define Only The Next 2–3 Steps
Not the next year. Not the next month.
Just focus on this:
- What must be done this week?
- What moves the needle today?
Clarity shrinks overwhelm.
2. Remove The “Overnight” Timeline
Expectation is what creates emotional burnout.
If success comes fast, beautiful.
But don’t build your emotional stability around speed.
Sustainable > explosive.
3. Train Your Mind Like A Monk
Your decision-making sharpens when your mind is sharp.
That means:
- Daily meditation
- Physical training
- Proper sleep
- Strong relationships
Monks prioritize the basics, and that maintains a well-oiled machine to function the way you want it to. You cannot build a powerful vision from a dysregulated brain and body.
4. Embrace The Boring Middle
People don't quit because the path is hard. People quit because it is boring.
Nobody glamorizes the plateau.
But the plateau builds:
- Skill
- Emotional resilience
- Identity strength
The “boring” days are rewiring you.
5. Fall In Love With Precision, Not Speed
Do the task in front of you:
- With intention
- With presence
- With focus
That’s where power is built.
Rushing only creates burnout, not mastery.
The Big Picture
Dopamine spikes highest not at achievement, but in anticipation and pursuit.
If your dopamine only attaches to “big success,” you crash when progress slows.
But when you attach dopamine to:
- Showing up
- Completing today’s task
- Small wins
You create a sustainable reward loop.
Emotional regulation shapes your future. When you stay calm in uncertainty, you signal safety to your nervous system. That keeps cortisol down and clarity up.
A calm brain makes sharp decisions.
A sharp decision repeated daily builds momentum.
Your Next Move:
Here’s what to remember:
✔ You won’t see the entire path — and that’s normal.
✔ Confusion is part of growth.
✔ Focus only on the next 2–3 steps.
✔ Remove the pressure of overnight success.
✔ Train your nervous system daily.
✔ Sustainable slow success beats rushed burnout.
As Victor Hugo said:
“Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”
Your job isn’t to force timing.
Your job is to be ready when it arrives.
So today, don’t try to conquer the mountain.
Just take the next step.
Then tomorrow, take the next one.
Be okay with the pace.
Be okay with the fog.
Resilience is built in the slow seasons.
And trust me, you’re building something far stronger than you realize.
You're changing your life, one moment at a time.
